Hearing Evaluation

This picture brings tears to my eyes.... my little boy looks so grown up in this picture.

Maybe it is the super cute overalls he is wearing.

Maybe it is the fact that he is sitting in this chair by himself instead of in my lap, for the first time, as we test his hearing in the booth we visit often.

Maybe it is because I have seen him practice this "game" so many times and this was the first time he used this new technique to test his hearing.

Update on: New Hearing Aid.

Well, after just one week of wearing his new hearing aid, Robert had an MRI and an ABR (hearing test). We were able to find out that he has no hearing what so ever in his left ear. He didn't respond to even the highest frequencies. I am thankful for answers and we now know that the hearing aid is doing nothing for him.

So, it sounds like we will go back to him wearing a BAHA (Bone Anchored Hearing Aid).

I prayed we would know for sure which one would be the best option for him and I am thankful for concrete answers.

What a blessing that through the program we are in that we have been able to use a loaner hearing aid and BAHA while we search for the best tool. Other than having the hearing aid mold made we were able to just "borrow" a hearing aid to try, and now we can give it back so it can be a blessing to someone else.

I am trusting God in this and thankful for clear direction on the matter. If it was left up to me to decide I would have said that I thought his hearing aid was helping. There are so many variables and I am glad he was able to get this test done.

New Hearing Aid

Our little man got his first hearing aid! We have been using a BAHA ( a Bone Anchored Hearing Aid) for a while now but after a recent test showed some frequencies in his left ear we are now trying a hearing aid to see if we get better results.

I am so thankful for these loaner hearing tools through our local program so we can navigate what is best for him.

He had such a hard time in the office with letting me try to put it in his ear. It was not a quick process. :)
But then we got home and he sat happily on my lap and let me try to figure it out. For a boy who has given me a very hard week with behavior and now this new device issue I was taken by total surprise when he was willing to let me figure it out.

He seems to be quite proud of his new hearing aid and lights up when ever he shows it to people. I hope we can tell if it is better than the BAHA or not.

Language vs. speech

I have been reflecting on Robert and his hearing loss/ deafness over the last few months. I have been feeling convicted that I needed to hurry up and make some decisions in regard to his language. For those of you that don't know, we got Robert when he was born, I brought him home from the hospital. In fact I was there when he failed his hearing test and again days later at the longer hearing test when they told me he was Deaf in his left ear and had hearing loss in his right ear.

BAHA (Bone Anchored Hearing Aid)

Finally our soon to be son got his BAHA! It is a loaner from hearing specialist but we are thrilled to have it. If it works for him then he can have one surgically implanted in his head in a few years. We went to our appt today and he was so upset about not being able to play with certain things in the office and he kept pulling it off his head and throwing it. Not good.
